The UAE and the Lebanese Republic have officially signed a bilateral agreement to provide for the ease of movement of citizens and nationals of the two countries. This requires working together to have the right processes and systems in place to ensure seamless travel. This development was announced in a joint statement released following the official working visit of His Excellency Joseph Aoun, the President of Lebanon, to the UAE. It added that this development reaffirms the commitment of both countries towards developing closer ties and strengthening people-to-people contacts.
A more active diplomacy and a bilateral dialogue
When President Aoun traveled to the UAE, the two governments expressed a mutual wish to upgrade their diplomatic representation. The two leaders had extended and fruitful talks at the Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi, where they conducted a comprehensive review of all aspects of the bilateral relations. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, expressed his honest hope that the visit by the Lebanese President would be “an incentive to deepen the strong relationship” between the two brotherly nations and work to “fulfill their common aspirations for development and mutual benefit.”
Support of the UAE for the sovereignty and stability of Lebanon
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed also reiterated the UAE’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. For his part, President Aoun expressed his deep gratitude to the President of the UAE for his continued high praise for the Lebanese people and Lebanon. Such instances of mutual goodwill and support highlight the firm base of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Promoting UAE-Lebanon Economic and Investment Collaboration
An essential focus of the meetings between Lebanon and the UAE was the means to improve economic and investment cooperation. Both parties also acknowledged that there is a strong appetite on both sides to seize opportunities where they arise, to create a meaningful exchange of knowledge between the two respective sectors, and to advance development in a range of areas of government work. In this context, the Knowledge Exchange Office operating in the UAE Ministry of Cabinet Affairs is planning to make an official visit to Beirut within the coming days to enhance this vital exchange of information and experiences.
The visit aims, in essence, to highlight UAE experiences and unique tools and methods, which have borne fruits in terms of enhancing the government performance in the UAE, believing this would reflect positively on the private and public sectors in Lebanon and the UAE as well, and results would serve the best interest of both brotherly countries.

The extensive dialogues even reached an essential accord in setting a joint Emirati-Lebanese Business Council. It is that so-called council that will be part of a living body that will continue to foster economic links, create business opportunities, and increase the circulation between business communities of the two countries. Moreover, it was agreed on the dispatch by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the accredited fund that supports sustainable development, to send a senior-level delegation to Lebanon.
This delegation will be focused on the potential cooperation projects that can contribute to the long-term and sustainable economic and social development of Lebanon and hold the potential for further bilateral cooperation. They also welcomed this constructive exchange of views on recent regional developments and their implications for regional security and overall stability, demonstrating a shared commitment to a peaceful and prosperous regional environment in addition to these bilateral initiatives.
Talks about setting up a joint business council also reflect the region’s wider trend of promoting intra-regional trade and investment, given the economic interdependence it involves. The common ground on knowledge transfer in governmental action underscores a mutual concern with administrative modernisation and increasing the efficiency of the public sector, based on the positive experiences both countries have had in this area. These cooperative endeavors appear to be encouraging a more optimistic mindset for the future which is propelling into long-term plans to enhance the bilateral relationship seeing the abundance of benefit to both their peoples and the broader region.
